SafeJobs is the Find A Job (FAJ) safe zone initiative to provide free advice and help to Nigerian job seekers to protect and prevent them from being scammed. We are all aware there are unscrupulous people who are exploiting the vulnerability of job seekers for financial gains.
On this job search portal we try to make it very hard for scammers to operate but we still expect all job seekers to "Shine their eyes!". We advise all job all job seekers to follow the following SafeJob guidelines:
Legitimate employers will NEVER ask you to pay money before, during, or after the recruitment process. Any request for "processing fees", "registration fees", "training fees", or "documentation fees" is a RED FLAG. Report such jobs immediately.
Before applying or attending interviews, research the company online. Check their website, social media presence, and CAC registration. Verify the company address and contact details. If a company has no online presence or verifiable information, be very cautious.
Use our platform's verified company badge to identify legitimate employers. Companies with CAC verification have been authenticated. You can also verify company registration status on the CAC portal. Avoid companies that refuse to provide their RC number or business registration details.
Legitimate companies use professional email addresses (e.g., hr@companyname.com). Be suspicious of free email services like Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail for official recruitment communications. Scammers often use these free services to appear legitimate.
Never share sensitive information like your BVN, bank account details, or copies of your IDs until you've verified the company and received a formal job offer. Legitimate employers will only request such information AFTER hiring you for background checks and payroll setup.
For first interviews, insist on meeting at the company's registered office or a public location. Be wary of interviews conducted in hotels, restaurants, or residential addresses. Never go alone to unfamiliar locations - bring a friend or family member.
Be skeptical of job offers with unrealistic salaries for entry-level positions, promises of quick wealth, or guaranteed employment without proper interviews. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Research average salaries for similar positions in Nigeria.
If you encounter a suspicious job posting or fraudulent recruiter, report it immediately using our "Report Scam" feature. Help protect other job seekers by sharing your experience. We take all reports seriously and investigate promptly.
